Hello my name is Lae’Anna Drummond and I am 18 years old. I was a military brat growing up so my family moved around a bit. I’ve lived in Alabama, a lot of places all over Georgia, and Germany. It was my dad who did most of the fun traveling overseas. Though it was still fun to learn about all of the places he’d been to and learning phrases in  a new language when he’d come home. Being exposed to these new cultures and people sparked my interest in wanting to see the rest of the world. I started learning French in junior high. Then I became interested in human behaviors, how different people in different cultures work  and the next thing I know I was taking AP psych and sociology classes in high school, declaring neuroscience would be my major in college.

While I love to get a good poke at someone’s brain, I have a strong love for artistic activities as well. I love to draw, paint, take photos, and just overall create things. There was a long time in my life where I wanted to be an artist or fashion designer, not a neuroscientist. But then I realized how much I wanted to help people and how much I enjoyed it. While I know this is possible through art and I can’t even count the number of times other artists have helped me, science and medicine feel like a more direct way to connect with people. And hopefully that’s what happens, and hopefully I can change people’s lives.
